Chelmondiston is situated on the
beautiful Shotley Peninsula between the River Orwell to the North and the River
Stour to the South.
Both rivers offer stunning views, marvellous walks and excellent sailing; each with
its own very different character. The Orwell starts its journey as the River Gipping
and flows through Sufflolk, lending its name to Ipswich (once known as Gippeswyck or Gippeswick)
where it meets the Orwell estuary. The Stour flows through the Dedham
Vale ("Constable Country") and forms much of the border between Suffolk to the North
and Essex to the South emerging
at Manningtree, at the head of the Stour estuary.
